Plastics Pollution

Each day for the past week as part of a new community #environmental-improvement interest I've pursued, I have been visiting our local lake to collect trash from the banks and water’s edge. Today’s lake cleanup reinforced how pervasive a pollutant #plastic is.

Plastics do not decompose. They break down into fragments of microplastics and nanoplastics. According to the #PlasticSoupFoundation, “What we know is that all #animal species, including humans, ingest them and that the smallest particles – the nanoplastics – can spread throughout the body and possibly reach the organs, including the #brain. We also know that the concentration of these small particles in the environment is increasing, and it’s likely that the concentration of particles in #humans is likely doing the same.”

I lack knowledge regarding the circumstances of this fish's demise. However, witnessing him floating alongside a plastic bag, appearing devoid of value, was deeply disheartening. It underscores the importance of treating all life, be it our own or that of others, with respect and reverence.
