I recently stopped by Fearless Kitty Rescue (FKR) to donate items to the Kittyville Boutique. I’ve spent time in the cat rooms, peering into caves, condos and cubbies to acquaint myself

with the feline dwellers, eventually rolling on the floor to pet a congenial cat as a rambunctious kitten nibbles at my shoelaces. I’m careful not to disturb the catnappers as we frolic, but it’s not easy. There is a tangible joy in this space — a joy that, for a time, vanquishes societal ills.

As I reflected on the cats in FKR’s care, I hoped they would soon find their lifetime homes. For now, they are fortunate to have Fearless Kitty providing a safe, protected environment. What stands out in this space is not only the joy and care, but the diversity I see. Cats of different colors and personalities, various ages, sizes and coat types, all with unique voices and histories. All have found a temporary home at FKR, a place where they coexist mostly harmoniously, indulging in food, shelter, attention and love.
Last month, FKR aided #FriendsOfNormie Rescue, based in Los Angeles' wildfire zone, by intaking 20 cats and kittens. This Southern California organization has rescued almost 5,000 cats since its 2020 inception. FKR is equally impressive. In 2024, it found homes for 374 cats, and this year, more cats can be adopted through continued kindness.
The FKR cat rooms are magical. The diversity of cats and kittens, the inclusion of new

arrivals, and the welcoming acceptance of all create an environment that fosters peace and community. Every feline resident has unique needs, and the space is thoughtfully designed with equity in mind, ensuring all cats, regardless of their background or personality, feel accommodated and valued. Perhaps we as humans can learn from this.
